It was another successful month of sports betting in the Mountain State in December. West Virginia sportsbooks took in more than $53 million in bets, up about $5 million from the previous month.

WV online sports betting apps accounted for about 62% of the total. They accepted almost $33 million over the course of the month.

The Greenbrier’s combination of FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook led the way in terms of online wagers. They were responsible for nearly $19 million in handle.

The $53 million bet in December was about a 10% increase from November wagering.

Despite not taking the most mobile bets, Hollywood Casino led all others for the month. It took in a total of $26 million in handle over the four weeks.

For the third consecutive month, Hollywood’s retail book outperformed its online platform. The slightly over $13.4 million is about $700,000 more than DraftKings accepted.

The Greenbrier finished second in handle with around $20 million. Since its retail location is private, the majority of the resort’s betting is done online.

Its online sportsbooks had nearly $19 million in wagers, or about 92% of the overall figure.

Mountaineer Casino placed third with just over $5 million for the month. While its online app in William Hill Sportsbook accumulated about $1.1 million in handle, Mountaineer’s retail location did the heavy lifting.

It was responsible for nearly $4 million in bets.

Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island were last among the state’s active sportsbooks. They brought in around $900,000 and $830,000, respectively.

Both locations received some help from their Betly online sportsbook. Mardi Gras saw $165,000 in online bets, whereas Wheeling’s app was around $70,000.

WV sportsbooks earned over $1 million in three of the four weeks in December. The over $4.7 million in December revenue was an 8% jump up from November.

Hollywood Casino led the state’s sportsbooks in generating profits, as well. It earned more than $2.3 million during the month.

Similar to the handle breakdown, Hollywood’s retail sportsbook produced more revenue than DraftKings. Its land-based book was responsible for almost $1.5 million, while the online app was around $850,000.

The Greenbrier finished second with slightly over $1.5 million in revenue. FanDuel and BetMGM accounted for almost $1.4 million of the total.

Mountaineer Casino was third in December with about $560,000 in earnings. Although its retail sportsbook made over $415,000 altogether, it actually lost more than $160,000 for the week of Dec. 26.

Wheeling Island earned around $220,000 last month, as opposed to the $130,000 from its sister property.

The Betly platform netted about $14,000 for Wheeling and $36,000 for Mardi Gras.
